A little girl in our pre-school room at Tops Poole has recently being diagnosed with a condition called Rett syndrome.

Rett syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that affects brain development, resulting in severe mental and physical disability. It is estimated to affect about 1 in 12,000 girls born each year and is only rarely seen in males.

Julia currently has a small number of therapy sessions every month but she would benefit greatly from some additional sessions. Tops Poole organised an event to raise money to book and pay for some additional sessions for the child.

The nursery held a pyjama day on Wednesday 11th July. Children and staff were welcome to wear pyjamas for the day, with the option to make a small donation.

We are delighted to announce the nursery raised £117 for Julia .

Pyjama Day for Cerys

A little girl in our Investigators room at Tops Wareham, Cerys, aged 2, has recently being diagnosed with Bilateral Cerebral Palsy.

Bilateral Cerebral Palsy is they type of Cerebral Palsy where solely one limb or one specific area of the body is affected.

Since Cerys has been diagnosed she has attended physio and occupational therapy sessions and works extremely hard at everything that is thrown at her.

There is an operation called an SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) which Cerys could have to reduce the spasticity in her legs and help her improve her walking. Cerys has been referred to Bristol Hospital, one of four in the UK that do the operation privately as it is not currently funded by the NHS.

We are, therefore, pleased to announce Tops Wareham held a pyjama day on Wednesday 18thJuly. The nursery raised £160 towards Cerys’s operation.

Please watch this space for other fund raising events for Cerys. Please click here to view Cerys’s YouTube video with more information about Cery’s diagnosis.
